Buyer Guide for Teachers and Educators
Pass the Apple is an online consignment marketplace for K-12 education materials. We connect young teachers around the country with more experienced and retired educators who have discount teaching supplies they’d like to sell. Items listed on Pass the Apple range from gently used classroom furniture to homeschool materials to brand-new and even free teaching materials.
Joining our marketplace is really simple. In order to start shopping, simply create a member profile using your email address. You’ll then be able to shop for teaching supplies at anywhere from 50% to 80% off retail prices. Most items you’ll find on Pass the Apple are slightly used and will be marked as in fair, good, or new condition.
Our hope is that you will be able to find all of the educational materials you need for much less than you’d spend in stores. You’ll also help support other educators by taking supplies that are no longer getting used off their hands and putting money back in their pockets.
Still have some questions about buying high school, middle school, elementary, and preschool teaching materials? Check below for answers to the most commonly asked questions we receive:
How does shipping work?
Check out our shipping and returns policy page for full details. Basically, sellers will include the cost of shipping in their listing price, so the price you see is the price you pay, minus taxes.
What does “Local Pickup Option” mean?
Some sellers may choose to offer local pickup on their items. If you live near someone who is offering local pickup for their teaching supplies, you can avoid shipping costs by arranging a time to pick up your items from the seller directly.
Can I return an item if I need to?
Once you receive an item, you have 48 hours to initiate a return. If it turns out that the item was damaged or different than it was described by the seller, let us know and we will reimburse all your costs. Learn more by reading our shipping and returns policy page.
How are the prices and estimated retail price determined?
Prices are set directly by the seller. We encourage sellers to list their items for at least 50% off the estimated retail price. The estimated retail price is what the seller believes the item would sell for if it were brand new in stores today. We trust the sellers to use their best judgment, but buyers are responsible for doing their research and making sure they are getting a fair price on any items that they purchase. Again, if items are misrepresented by the seller or get damaged during shipping, you’ll be able to return the item and receive a full reimbursement.
What is this DonorsChoose.org option?
When you check out, you’ll have the option to round up your total to the nearest dollar. Those extra cents will then be donated to member-created projects on DonorsChoose.org. If you have a project you would like help funding, please let us know. Learn more by visiting Our Partnership page.
Can I make purchases from outside the continental United States?
No. Unfortunately, we are currently limited to the continental US.
Does Pass the Apple have a mobile app?
Our new mobile app is currently in development. We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as it’s available!
